A Rajshahi court on Tuesday sent Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) joint secretary general Mizanur Rahman Minu to jail overturning his bail petition in a case filed for attempting to murder the then Boalia model police in-charge.

Rajshahi chief metropolitan magistrate Biswanath Mondol passed the order when the former Rajshahi city mayor, Minu, appeared before it in the morning seeking bail in the case.

Boalia model police in-charge Ziaur Rahman said the BNP activists, led by Minu, brought out a procession from Bhuban Mohan Park of the city on 4 June 2011 in support of a hartal. At one stage, the BNP men hurled brick chips at the law enforcers, triggering a clash that left several hundred activists injured.

Khan Mohammad Shahriar, the then inspector (investigation) of Boalia model police, suffered bullet wounds during the incident.

Boalia model police sub-inspector Jahangir Alam filed a case in this connection against 300 people, referring 119 names. Charge sheet of the case was submitted to the court after investigation on 4 February 2014.
