Intern doctors at Sir Salimullah Medical College and Mitford Hospital called off their strike on Wednesday night.

The interns made the announcement at about 8:30pm following the intervention of local lawmaker Haji Mohammad Selim and Bangladesh Medical Association secretary general Iqbal Arsenal.

Earlier, the Mitford intern doctors went on an indefinite strike on Monday following a case filed by the Ekushey Television (ETV) authorities against its director and four interns for alleged assault on some journalists.

ETV director Dr Md Jahidul Islam filed the case with the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court on Monday against Mitford Hospital director Brigadier General Md Jakir Hasan and four interns for their alleged involvement in assaulting some journalists of the private television channel.

On 19 April, interns of the hospital reported to attack six journalists, including a cameraman, of ETV when they went there for collecting information for "Ekusher Chokh", an investigative programme of the channel, leaving them injured.
