Name of deceased MP in invitation card!

Ruling Awami League MP Muhibur Rahman Manik on Monday said in Parliament that he received an invitation card from the Parliament Secretariat that contained, along with his name, the name of late MP Ishaque Hossain Talukder (Sirajganj-3).

Rising on a point of order, the lawmaker from Sunamganj-5 said that he received an invitation card from the Parliament Secretariat to attend a programme at a city hotel on Tuesday, which will be inaugurated by Speaker and Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) chairperson Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury.

The programme will be held at 9:30 am at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in collaboration with the IMF and the Parliament Secretariat, Muhibur Rahman Manik said.

“But I was surprised seeing the name of our late colleague Ishaque

Hossain Talukder MP (Raiganj-Tarash) beside my name in the invitation card.

“I got surprised seeing how careful the Parliament Secretariat is about us (MPs). But the Speaker and our colleagues, I mean MPs, of this Parliament lead the whole democratic world,” he added.

Muhibur Rahman Manik said the Parliament Secretariat is not aware of the MP who died one month ago and the condolence motion has been adopted in the House expressing deep shock at his death.

In reply, Deputy Speaker Fazle Rabbi Miah, who was in the chair, expressed his sorrow for such a mistake and asked the Senior Secretary of the Parliament Secretariat to take steps after inquiring about the incident.

“I personally express sorrow for this. I would ask Senior Secretary of the Jatiya Sangsad to take steps in this regard following an investigation,” he said.

Fazle Rabbi said the Parliament Secretariat should be more sincere to prevent recurrence of such mistake in the future.

The sitting of Parliament earlier started at 4:10 pm with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair and continued till 7 pm on Monday.

The next sitting of Parliament will resume at 4 pm on Tuesday.
