Nasim seeks inclusion of teachers in MPO
Awami League parliamentarian Mohammad Nasim on Monday requested inclusion of teachers under monthly pay order (MPO) scheme, which guarantees the payment of a portion of their salaries by the government, reports UNB.
He drew the attention of education minister Dipu Moni and finance minister AHM Mustafa Kamal in parliament, urging them to fulfill the ruling party's election promise.
Nasim said thousands of teachers recently demonstrated demanding inclusion in the scheme.
"We, all MPs, remain pledged-bound towards the people and teachers. Time has come to fulfill our commitments," the former health minister said, speaking on a point of order.
He requested the ministers to take steps to make budgetary allocation in the current fiscal year with a devised budget. Otherwise, he said, the promise would be broken.
Hasanul Haq Inu, former information minister, supported Nasim.
He said there had been massive development of the education sector over the last decade under prime minister Sheikh Hasina. Inu said the time has come to look into the quality of education, improve teachers' living standards and their skills.
"Inclusion of teachers under MPO is the first step towards improving their living standard," he said, adding that investment in the education sector never went in vain.
