New army chief adorned with General rank badge

Newly-appointed chief of Army Staff Aziz Ahmed has been adorned with the rank badge of General.
Prime minister Sheikh Hasina was present at the ceremony at Ganabhaban on Tuesday morning.
Navy chief Admiral Nizamuddin Ahmed and air chief Air
Marshal Masihuzzaman Serniabat adorned the new army chief with the rank badge of General.
The prime minister’s press secretary Ihsanul Karim said that after the function, prime minister Sheikh Hasina congratulated the new army chief by presenting a
bouquet.
The new army chief, he said, also greeted the prime minister on behalf of Bangladesh army by presenting a bouquet.
The prime minister said whenever Awami League assumed office, it took various steps for modernisation and development of the armed forces.
“Our government has also changed the designations of the lower ranks of the army like sweepers, cleaners and barbers to make those time-befitting ones side by side with development and modernisation of the force,” she said.
Theprime minister’s political affairs sdvisor HT Imam, security affairs advisor Tarique Ahmed Siddique, principal secretary Md Nojibur Rahman, principal staff officer of the Armed Forces Division Lt General Md Mahfuzur Rahman, the prime minister’s military secretary Major General Mia Mohammad Zainul Abedin and PMO secretary Sajjadul Hasan were present, among others.
On 18 June, the government appointed Quarter Master General of Bangladesh Army Lt Gen Aziz Ahmed as the new army chief.
“Bangladesh Army’s BA-2424 Lieutenant General Aziz Ahmed, BGBM, PBGM, BGBMS, PSC, G, Quarter Master General has been appointed as new chief of
Bangladesh Army from 25 June afternoon,” a defence ministry gazette notification said on 18 June.
He will also be promoted to the rank of general from June 25, the gazette, signed by joint secretary Md Abu Bakar Siddique, added.
Aziz Ahmed formally took over the charge from outgoing army chief General Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Huq on Monday, said a press release issued by the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR).
He served as the director general of BGB from 5 December 2012, to 16 November 2016.
