No PSC for 5th graders from now on

The government has decided to no longer hold the Primary School Certificate (PSC) examination for the fifth grade students from this year, not from next year.

The primary and mass education minister, Mostafizur Rahman, disclosed the decision at a press conference in the Bangladesh Secretariat on Tuesday.

The minister said the eighth graders will henceforth have to appear in the PSC as the government has upgraded the primary education up to Class VIII.
“The decision has been finalized. It will now be sent to the cabinet for approval,” the minister told the media briefing.

“There will be no PSC exam at the end of Class V from this year. This exam will be held at the end of Class VII. But the name of exam is yet to be finalised,” said the minister.

He said the cabinet will choose a name for the exam.
On 18 May, the education minister, Nurul Islam Nahid, announced that the government decided to elevate the level of primary education up to class VIII from next year.

Shortly after the announcement, parents and guardians of the current fifth graders started demonstrations demanding annulment of the PSC for the fifth graders from the current year, not from the next year.

Even a writ petition was filed with the High Court as to why the PSC will not be cancelled from the current year.
After that, the court issued a rule in this regard as well.
