Police on Sunday released Narayanganj city female councillor Jannatul Ferdous Nila two hours after her detention over the seven-murder incident in the city. 

Earlier, Detective Branch on Sunday picked up Nila, who is familiar with locals as 'girlfriend' of Nur Hossain, the prime accused in the seven-murder case, from the Fire Service Station at Hajiganj of the city at about 6:00pm, said sources at the district police. 

She was returning to Siddhirganj by a microbus from the Circuit House after taking part in a mass hearing when the detectives detained her for interrogation. 

Nila earlier told media that Nur wanted to make her his mistress. He also gifted a private car worth Tk 35 lakh to her. 

Nila also divorced her husband as Nur threatened to kill him, she revealed. 

Narayanganj sadar police in-charge Manzur Kader told Prothom Alo, " Narayanganj city female councillor Jannatul Ferdous Nila was held for interrogation over the seven-murder incident." 

On 27 April, Narayanganj panel mayor Nazrul Islam and his three associates and driver were abducted from Fatullah in Narayanganj. Hours into their abduction, Narayanganj district judge’s court's senior lawyer Chandan Kumar Sarker, and his driver were abducted while they were going to Dhaka. 

Three days into their abduction, the bodies of six people, including that of Nazrul and Chandan, were recovered on the Shitalakhya and Dhaleshwari rivers on 30 April. 

Besides, the body of Jahangir, the car driver of Nazrul Islam, was recovered from the Shitalakhya River on 1 May.
