Nurjahan Begum, noted journalist and editor of the weekly Begum, passed away on Monday.

She breathed her last in the capital’s Square Hospital.

Her elder daughter Flora Nasreen Khan told Prothom Alo her body will be taken to her residence at Old Dhaka’s Sharat Gupta Road for the namaz-e- janaza.

She will later be buried in the Mirpur intellectuals’ graveyard.

She was admitted to the Square Hospital on 5 May and shifted to the hospital’s intensive care unit on 7 May as her condition deteriorated.

Prime minister Sheikh Hasina expressed her condolences at the death of Nurjahan Begum.

Vice chancellor of Central Women University Dr. Parveen Hasan and professor Maleka Begum expressed their condolences as well.

Nurjahan Begum was under the care of Dr. Jahangeer Alam.

The prime minister took responsibility for her medical treatment.

Born on 4 June, 1925, Nurjahan Begum was a trailblazer for female journalists in Bangladesh.
