One gets life for killing woman in Jessore

A court here on Wednesday awarded life-term imprisonment to a man for killing a woman 18 years ago in Jessore.
Jessore Special and District Judge Nitai Chandra Saha pronounced the verdict. The convict was also fined Tk 20,000, in default, to suffer more two-year in jail.
According to court officials, the convict is Nazmul Hasan Raju, son of Amin Uddin of Kandonpur village in Keshabpur upazila of the district.
The prosecution story, in brief, is that Rahima Khatun, wife of Azhar Uddin of the same village, was killed by Nazmul over a trivial matter on 17 June in 1998.
After the incident, victim’s husband Azhar Uddin filed a murder case with Keshabpur Thana.
Officer-in-charge of the thana Abu Bakar Siddique, also investigation officer of the case, after investigation submitted charge-sheet to the court on 14 September, 1999 against seven persons including Nazmul Hasan Raju.
Later, the judge examining witnesses and relevant evidences announced the judgment. The judge also acquitted six other accused as the charges brought against them could not be proved.
