More than Tk 1.1 million has been stolen from Cumilla Krishi Bank by breaking the vault of the bank thanks to the poor security system and irresponsibility of the guard.

GM of Cumilla Krishi Bank and police superintendent presumed that the thieves stole the money by breaking the vault on Tuesday night as the guards went home leaving his duty. There was no CCTV surveillance either, reports news agency UNB.

Shakib Salehin, manager of the bank, lodged a case against the unknown accused on Wednesday afternoon following the incident of theft at the Krishi Bank’s Miabazar branch of Uzirpur union in Chauddagram upazila of Cumilla.

Meanwhile, Abdullah Al Mahfuz, OC of Chauddagram police station, confirmed authenticity of the case filing over the incident of theft.

After the incident, three people including the two guards of the bank and a peon were detained for interrogation. However, the peon was released, but the guards have been kept under police custody.

Investigation is going on to bring the accused involved with the theft under the purview of the law.
