Pay fees for NID card renewal, correction from Tuesday

The Tk 100-1000 service fees, set for the renewal or correction of one’s National Identity (NID) cards, take effect on Tuesday, UNB news agency reports.
People have so far availed themselves of the NID services free from the Election Commission since its introduction in 2007.
In case of losing or damaging the card, the service receiver will have to pay Tk 200 and Tk 300 as normal and urgent service charges respectively to have a fresh NID card for the first time, while Tk 300 and Tk 500 for the second time and Tk 500 and Tk 1,000 for every next time.
And to have information inscribed in a NID card corrected, people will have to count Tk 200 in fee for the first time, while Tk 300 and Tk 400 respectively for the second time and every next time.
For having a NID card renewed, the service receiver will have to pay Tk 100 and Tk 150 to avail of normal and urgent services respectively.
Besides, if anyone wants to correct his data, stored in the EC’s server, the person will have to pay Tk 100 fee to avail of the service for the first time, and Tk 200 and Tk 300 for the second time and every next time.
In June last, the Commission issued gazette notifications fixing the service fees with effect from September 1 ahead of introduction of high security featured smart NID card instead of laminated NID card, printed on normal paper.
The service receivers will have to deposit the fees to the Code No 1-0601-0001-1847 of Sonali Bank or send the fees trough treasury chalan to EC Secretary from any Sonali Bank branch, or pay order or bank draft from any bank to the EC Secretary, he said.
EC secretary Sirazul Islam said people will be able to avail themselves of the NID services from the EC’s Upazila or Thana offices after depositing the fees through online banking from any branch of Sonali Bank, or pay order or treasury challan to the EC secretary.
The service receivers will have to submit supportive documents along with payment slip of the fee to the EC offices, he told reporters at his EC secretariat office.
Besides, people can avail of the online service related to the NID, he noted.
For the Dhaka city dwellers, the commission has set up booths in its 15 Thana offices located in eight areas to provide the NID services, he added.
“We’ve decentralised the services for people’s convenience,” the EC secretary said.
Besides, in case of availing of NID verification service, an organisation or agency will have to count Tk 5 lakh registration fee initially and Tk 2 fee for every verification of data of any particular person. But in case of any government agency, the verification fee would be Tk 1 instead of Tk 2.
In this regard, the EC secretary said the privacy of people will not be invaded in any way for providing verification services to any organisation, as the commission is giving only NID card verification service, not access to personal information.
“We’re providing verification services to the organisations just saying that any particular NID card is yes (authentic) or no (not authentic),” he said.
There are data of the country's 9.62 crore voters in the EC NID server and 9.20 crore people got the laminated NID cards.
