President rejects ‘mercy petitions’
The president has rejected “mercy petitions” of death row convicts BNP leader Salauddin Quader Chowdhury and Jamaat-e-Islami leader Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed.
Senior officials in the law and home ministries have confirmed the news to Prothom Alo.
The government said the death row convicts--BNP standing committee member and former minister Salauddin Quader Chowdhury and Jamaat-e-Islami secretary general and also a former minister Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed--applied for presidential clemency, a claim that their families denied.
