Protesters set ultimatum, threaten shutdown of BUET

Demonstrating students seeking justice for Abrar Fahad, who was murdered by BUET unit Bangladesh Chhatra League leaders in his residential hall, issued an ultimatum seeking vice-chancellor Saiful Islam’s accountability regarding Abrar’s murder in the hall, by 2:00pm on Friday.

The protesters said they will lock the classrooms and shut down all classes and admission tests scheduled to be held on Friday if their demands are not met.

The protesting students made this announcement at the Shahid Minar of BUET campus and called for implementation of their 10-point demand, including punishment of Abrar’s killers.

The students have been protesting on campus since Abrar Fahad was beaten to death in Sher-e-Bangla hall of BUET by BCL leaders of the BUET unit early Monday. Abrar’s father filed a case with the Chawkbazar police station accusing 19 people.

The 10-point demand includes ensuring capital punishment for Abrar’s assailants, expulsion of the students involved in the murder after identifying them from the CCTV footage, ban of party-based student politics and so on.
