RCC mayor Bulbul suspended

The government on Thursday suspended Rajshahi city corporation (RCC) mayor Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul, also a BNP leader.
The local government and rural development (LGRD) ministry issued an order confirming suspension of Bulbul for his alleged involvement in crimes including murder.
Elected RCC mayor beating the ruling party-backed candidate in 2013 elections, Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul has been accused in four cases with Boalia police station. The court took the cases into cognizance, according to the order signed by a senior assistant secretary Jasimuddin Haidar.
So, the ministry decided to suspend Bulbul under Local Government (City Corporation) Act 2009.
The suspension order was issued at a time when discussion is on as to whether three mayors of Dhaka and Chittagong city corporations, elected in controversial elections on 28 April, would be given the rank and status of minister or state minister.
The BNP-backed mayoral candidates including Bulbul won in Rajshahi, Sylhet, Barisal, Khulna and Gazipur city corporations' elections in 2013. But none of them was given the status of minister or state minister. They were rather implicated in different cases.
Sylhet mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury and Gazipur mayor MA Mannan have already been suspended. Khulna mayor Moniruzzaman is facing two cases.
