Samakal Editor Golam Sarwar dies

Golam Sarwar, editor of vernacular daily Samakal, died on Monday night.

He was 75, reports UNB.

The veteran journalist, who had long been suffering from various dieses, breathed his last around 9:25pm (Bangladesh time) while undergoing treatment at a Singapore hospital, said Samakal city editor Shahed Chowdhury.

President Abdul Hamid and prime minister Sheikh Hasina condoled the death.

Born on 1 April 1943 in Banaripara in Barisal, Golam Sarwar also served as chairman of the board of directors of Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB).

He obtained his Master’s degree in Bangla literature with honours from Dhaka University. He started his carrier as a journalist in 1963.
