Selfie costs RUET student his life, drowns in pond

A student of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) drowned in a pond on the campus while taking a selfie on Thursday.

According to UNB, the deceased was Mohiuddin Taj, 23, a student of Electrical and Electronics Engineering department and son of Enamul Haque of Koyra village in Patnitala upazila of Naogaon.

Quoting witnesses, officer-in-charge of Motihar police station SM Masud Parvez said Taj was taking a selfie on the bank of the pond when the cellphone slipped from his hand.

He instantly jumped into the pond to find his mobile phone but he drowned.

At one stage, other students rescued him and took him to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital but it was too late. The physicians at the hospital declared him dead.
