Shaikh Abdur Rahman's wife under watch
"We are not in contact with anyone. We are not part of any organisation. Even our relations don't inquire after us." Nurjahan (Rupa), wife of Jamayatul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) founder Shaikh Abdur Rahman, tells Prothom Alo yesterday, Saturday. She say that intelligence agencies keep a watch on her family.
Nurjahan was arrested along with husband Abdur Rahman on March 2, 2006. After her release she went to her own home in Nayapara, Jamalpur. She's living there now with three sons and a daughter.
Shaikh Abdur Rahman was hanged on March 30, 2007.
Nurjehan Begum says, "We are kept under watch. Jamalpur RAB and police often come and ask questions, sometimes even search our house. They want to know if any relations of my husband come here ever."
Nurjehan says that she has four sons and one daughter. Eldest some Nabil is in jail on terrorist charges. Another has just passed his HSC. The other two study at the madrassa. Daughter Afifa's husband was a shura member of JMB. He was also hanged along with his father-in-law. Afifa stays with her mother now.
When asked how she runs the family, she says they have property in Bhatara. They earn money from the sales of rice and jute as also from house rent.
