Singer Bashir Ahmed no more

Veteran singer Bashir Ahmed died around 10:30am on Saturday at his Mohammadpur residence in Dhaka at the age of 74.
He was born in Kolkata in 1940.
Bashir was honoured with National Film Awards, Ekushey Padak and many other awards in his lifetime.
His wife Meena Bashir is also a singer.
Bashir had his early lessons in classical music from Ustad Belayet Hussain of Kolkata and then he moved to Bombay to learn music from legendary Bade Ghulam Ali.
He came to Dhaka in 1960 and made his debut in films by composing songs for "Sagar" before he turned to playback singing.
His song "Jab Tum Akela Hoge, Tab Hum Yad Ayenge' for film 'Karowan' was a hit across Pakistan in 1964.
His songs in Bengali film 'Darshan' made him very popular in 1967.
'Onek Sadher Moyna Amaar Badhon Ketay Jay', 'Deko Na Amare Tumi', 'Ogo Priyotoma', 'Amake Porate Jodi Eto lage Bhalo', 'Pinjor Khule Diychhi, Jare jabi Jodi Jaa' and 'Ghum Sudhu Chhilo Duti Nayane' are some of his memorable hits.
