Star editor Mahfuz Anam gets bail in Gazipur
A Gazipur court on Monday granted bail to The Daily Star editor Mahfuz Anam in a defamation suit.
Judge Iqbal Masud of senior judicial magistrate court-2 granted Mahfuz Anam the bail on a bond of Tk 10,000 after hearing the lawsuit.
Amanat Hossain Khan, education affairs’ secretary of ruling Awami League’s Gazipur unit, filed the defamation case claiming Tk 5 crore as compensation against The Daily Star editor on 17 February.
The local AL leader filed the case against Mahfuz Anam for publishing ‘defamatory’ reports in his daily on AL president Sheikh Hasina during the military-backed caretaker government in 2007-08.
