Sylhet-Chittagong train services disrupted
A train derailment at Akhaura in Brahmanbaria on Sunday morning has disrupted the Sylhet-Chittagong train services.
The accident, however, did not affect train services on Dhaka-Sylhet and Dhaka-Chittagong route.
Akhaura Railway officials said in the morning that a coach of inter-city Udayan Express derailed on Akhaura Railway Junction yard at about 4:45am on Sunday. The train was heading towards Chittagong.
Three passengers got minor injuries, they added.
Akhaura Railway Junction official Motaleb Hossain said a break in a wheel led to the coach derailment. At least five points on the railway was damaged as the train stopped about a kilometre away after the wheel broke off. The accident disrupted the signal system, he added.
Following the accident, Titas Commuter train plying Akhaura-Dhaka route and Kushiara Express plying Akhaura-Sylhet route were held up at Akhaura railway station.
Motaleb Hossain said they had already started fixing the rail communications and hoped that train services will be restored by an hour.
