A court on Thursday issued an arrest warrant against former BNP ward commissioner MA Quayum and another accused Sohel alias Bhangari Sohel in the murder of Italian national Ceasre Tavella in the capital last year.

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Kamrul Hossain Mollah passed the order after taking cognizance of charge sheet submitted by police.

Earlier on 28 June, police submitted the charge sheet against seven people, including Quayum and his brother Abdul Matin, in connection with the murder.

Five others named in the charge sheet are Tamjid Ahmed Rubel, Russell Chowdhury, Minhajul Arefin, also known as Bhagne Russell, Sohel alias Bhangari Sohel, supplier of firearms, and Shakhawat Hossain Sharif.

The court issued arrest warrants against them as they remained absconding since after the killing.

Quayum is a joint convener of the BNP's Dhaka city unit and also a former ward commissioner of the erstwhile Dhaka City Corporation.

Tavella, an aid worker, was killed in the capital's high diplomatic zone Gulshan on 28 September last year.
