Titas Gas MD removed
The managing director of Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited, Md Nowshad Islam, was relieved of duty on Sunday.
Officials in the power, gas and mineral resources ministry confirmed the government decision to the Prothom Alo this evening.
When contacted by the Prothom Alo, Nowshad Islam said he was informed nothing about the decision formally.
The ministry officials said Nowshad was removed apparently in the wake of gas-line blast in an apartment building in capital’s Banani although this reason is not mentioned in the removal letter.
At least four people were injured in a fire broke out at the multi-storey Banani building from a gas pipe leakage on 18 March and the fire damaged the building severely that led the city development authorities to call it an abandon one.
The owner of the building had apprised the Titas administration of the gas leakage thrice before the fire broke out, but it allegedly paid no heed to the complaints.
A Titas official has already been suspended for his negligence of duty.
The Dhaka North City Corporation blamed the Titas administration for the gas pipeline leakage.
