UGC identifies 63 illegal branches of 9 pvt universities
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has identified 63 branches belonging to nine different private universities as illegal.
Among them, 29 branches belong to Darul Ihsan and 16 to American Bangladesh University.
The UGC chairman, Abdul Mannan, disclosed this at a press conference held at the UGC on Sunday where the UGC distributed a list of the illegal branches.
Following a High Court order, Darul Ihsan University has been shut down along with outer branches of all private universities.
A high official at the education ministry told the Prothom Alo that the authorities will now shut down these branches.
The UGC chairman the Darul Ihsan University was running 29 out of many other outer campuses taking a stay order from the court.
He said the UGC has already shut down a total of 119 outer campus of several private universities.
Only 15 Universities have shifted to their own campuses:
Currently, there are 95 private universities in Bangladesh. According to the UGC, only 15 of them have moved to their own campus as per the law.
