Viber, Tango blocked in country

The government suspended Viber and Tango, popular internet calling and message services, on Sunday morning.
According to sources at the mobile phone operators, Bangladesh Telecommunication and Regulatory Commission (BTRC) authorities sent a letter and verbal directive to them to stop Viber and Tango services from 5:00am.
The BTRC sources said the authorities sent a directive to mobile phone operators first and then to International Gateway authorities in this regard.
Initially the operators were asked to suspend the services till 6:00pm but the ban has now been extended to 11:59pm.
The sources told Prothom Alo that the BTRC authorities have blocked the services in the country only after the home ministry's directive. The government has taken the decision for the sake of security, the sources added.
