The Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson, Khaleda Zia, also widow of the party's founder Ziaur Rahman, has pointed the finger at Prime Minister Sheikh Hasian over the killing of the former president.

Addressing a rally at Jaipurhat on Sunday she said, "Why was Zia assassinated 13 days after you had returned to this country? Why had you tried to cross the border wearing Burkha? Were you frightened?"

Khaleda was addressing the programme at the Ramdeow Bazla Government High School ground in Jaipurhat in the late afternoon.

Earlier, several BNP leaders complained that Sheikh Hasina had relations with the killing of former president Ziaur Rahman. Hasina returned home on 17 May 1981 after her father, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was assassinated on 15 August 1975. Khaleda, however, commented on the issue for the first time.

Dismissing Hasina's allegation that Zia did not let her back to Bangladesh, Khaleda said, "Ziaur Rahman brought her back sending aides. [He] returned her all [of her properties]"

Khaleda in her speech also complained that foreign investors are not coming to Bangladesh fearing the ruling Awami League. She said investors are not getting adequate power and gas. She also assured that if her party goes to power in future it will manage all facility for the investors.

She said they will launch their movement after the Eid. They would enforce tough agitations, including hartal, if the government tries to hinder their programmers. She asked the government to have talks for the sake of the country. She called her activists and supporters to wage movement jointly.

Earlier, in the afteroon, she addressed a crowd in front of the Bogra Circuit House.
