Bangladesh reports 225 new Covid deaths and 11,578 new cases in 24 hrs

The number of detected novel coronavirus cases in Bangladesh, according to the government, on Monday rose to 1,467,715 as 5,717 more cases were reported in the last 24 hours.

During that time 117 more Covid-19 patients died, raising the total deaths in the country to 25,399, said a press release of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

A total of 36,789 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. The rate of detection in the last 24 hours until 8:00 am was 15.54 per cent.

The health directorate said as many as 8,982 people recovered from the highly infectious disease in the last 24 hours, taking the number of the total recovery to 1,372,856.

Of the people who died in the last 24 hours, 53 were male and 64 female.

Among the Covid-19 patients who died in that time, 40 were in Dhaka division, 29 in Chattogram, 11 in Khulna and 13 in Sylhet. Rest of the deceased are from other divisions of the country, said the DGHS press release.

Bangladesh detected its first coronavirus patient on 8 March last year and recorded its first death in the disease on 18 March that year.
