Bangladesh reports 163 Covid-19 deaths, over 11,500 cases, highest detection rate in 24 hrs

The number of detected novel coronavirus cases in Bangladesh, according to the government, on Tuesday rose to 966,406 as 11,525 more cases were reported, after testing 36,631 samples, including rapid antigen tests, in the last 24 hours.

During that time 163 more Covid-19 patients died, raising the total deaths in the country to 15,392, said a press release of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) today.

The rate of detection in the last 24 hours until 8:00 am was 31.46 per cent, while the overall rate of detection of infected cases in Bangladesh as of Tuesday stands at 14.22 per cent.

The health directorate today said a total of 5,433 people were recovered from the highly infectious disease in the last 24 hours, taking the number of total recovery to 844,515.

The overall rate of people recovered as of today stands at 87.39 per cent while the rate of death is 1.59 per cent, it added.

Of the people died in the last 24 hours, 98 were male and 65 female. Of the total deaths so far, 10,883 were male (70.71 per cent) and 4,509 female (29.29 per cent).

Among the 163 patients died in the last 24 hours, 155 breathed their last at different hospitals, three were brought dead to hospital while five passed away at their homes.

Among the Covid-19 patients died in that time, 45 were in Dhaka division, 24 in Chattogram, 24 in Rajshahi, 46 in Khulna, 11 in Rangpur, two in Sylhet, six in Barishal and five in Mymensingh divisions.

Among the patients died in Bangladesh so far, 7813 were in Dhaka, 2857 in Chattogram, 1152 in Rajshahi, 1537 in Khulna, 454 in Barisal, 549 in Sylhet, 684 in Rangpur, and 346 in Mymensingh division, the DGHS said.

A total of 38,039 samples were collected in the last 24 hours. As of Tuesday, the number of samples tested in Bangladesh stands at 67,94,113.

Bangladesh detected first coronavirus patient on 8 March last year and recorded its first death in the disease on 18 March that year.
