Bangladesh reports 85 Covid deaths, 5,727 new cases

The number of detected novel coronavirus cases in Bangladesh, according to the government, on Wednesday rose to 866,877 as 5,727 more cases were reported after testing 28,256 samples including rapid antigen tests in the last 24 hours.

During that time 85 Covid-19 patients died, raising the total deaths in the country to 13,787, said a press release of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Wednesday.

The rate of detection in the last 24 hours until 8:00 am was 20.27 per cent.

The health directorate today said some 3,168 people recovered from the highly infectious disease in the last 24 hours, taking the number of the total recovery to 791,553.

Of the people who died in the last 24 hours, 55 were male and 30 female.

Among the Covid-19 patients who died in the last 24 hours, 36 were in Khulna division, 19 in Dhaka, 18 in Rajshahi and seven in Chattogram, three in Mymensingh and one each in Rangpur and Barishal.

Bangladesh detected its first coronavirus patient on 8 March last year and recorded its first death in the disease on 18 March that year.
