Bangladesh reports highest-ever 247 Covid deaths, 15,192 cases in 24 hrs

The number of detected novel coronavirus cases in Bangladesh, according to the government, on Monday rose to 11, 79,827 as 15,192 more cases were reported, after testing 50,952 samples, including rapid antigen tests, in the last 24 hours.

During that time 247 more Covid-19 patients died, raising the total deaths in the country to 19,521, said a press release of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) today.

The rate of detection in the last 24 hours until 8:00am was 29.82 per cent which was 30.04 per cent yesterday. The overall rate of detection of infected cases in Bangladesh as of Sunday stands at 15.72 per cent.

The health directorate said as many as 11,052 people recovered from the highly infectious disease in the last 24 hours, taking the total recovery to 10,09,923.

Of the people died in the last 24 hours, 141 were males and 106 females. Of the total deaths so far, 13,340 were males and 6,181 females. Among the 247 patients died in the last 24 hours, 221 breathed their last at different hospitals, while 26 passed away at their homes.

Among the Covid-19 patients died in that time, 72 were in Dhaka division, 61 in Chattogram, 21 in Rajshahi, 46 in Khulna, 16 in Rangpur, 14 in Sylhet, 12 in Barishal and 5 in Mymensingh division.

Bangladesh detected its first coronavirus patient on 8 March last year and recorded its first death in the disease on 18 March that year.
