Bangladesh reports record 21 virus deaths in 24 hours

Bangladesh has reported a record daily high of 21 deaths from the novel coronavirus, sending the overall toll to 349.

This is the highest number of deaths caused by the virus in a day.

Additional director general of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Nasima Sultana made the disclosure at an online briefing on Monday.

She also said that the number of new cases confirmed was 1,602 across the country in the past 24 hours, bringing the overall total to 23,870.

The DGHS official also said a total of 212 patients recovered from the contagious disease during the period.

“So far, 4,585 people have recovered,” she added.

Nasima Sultana said a total of 9,788 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. Of them, 1,602 people were diagnosed with coronavirus.

Bangladesh first reported death from COVID-19 on 18 March while the first case was confirmed on 8 March.
