Bangladesh virus cases near 230,000 mark

Bangladesh has reported 35 more deaths from coronavirus while 2,960 more people have been newly diagnosed with COVID-19 in the past 24 hours.

Additional director general of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Nasima Sultana, said this during a regular online briefing on Tuesday.

On the 143rd day of detection, the death toll now stands at 3,000 and the latest figures take the total number of infections in the country to 229,185, according to the briefing.

She also said a total of 12,714 samples were tested. Of them, 2,960 were diagnosed with coronavirus.

Bangladesh first reported death from coronavirus on 18 March while the first case was confirmed on 8 March.

Across the country 1,731 more patients made recovery, Nasima Sultana said adding that so far 127,414 people have recovered from the deadly disease.

She said, among the 35 victims, who died in the past 24 hours, 26 were men while nine were women.

She also said a total of 12,714 samples were tested. Of them, 2,960 were diagnosed with coronavirus.
