Cartoonist, journalists among 11 sued for spreading 'rumour'

The Rapid Action Battalion-3 has filed a case against 11 people including a cartoonist and expatriate journalists for allegedly disseminating rumours.

The elite force framed them on charges of misguiding people, creating instability and chaos in a case filed with Ramna police station under the Digital Security Act.

Those who were charged in the case are cartoonist Ahemed Kabir Kishore, expatriate journalists Tasnim Khalil and Shahed Alam, businessman Mushtaq Ahmed, information technologist and Rashtrachinta’s member Md Didarul Islam Bhuiyan, Minhaz Mannan, Sayer Zulkarnain, Ashik Imran, Philip Shumakhar, Shwapan Wahid, and blogger Asif Mohiuddin.

According to the case statement, RAB-3 observed that Sayer Zulkarnain, Ami Kishore, Ashik Imran Philip Shumakhar, Swapan Wahid and Mushtaq Ahmed have been running the ‘I M Bangladeshi’ Facebook page as admin.

The elite force in the statement also mentioned the accused were trying to spread rumours and circulate defaming contents on Father of the Nation, Bangladesh’s war of independence, pandemic, the sate and the government.

Despite knowing those were exaggerated and fake they were circulating the information on social media. It is misguiding people, creating instability and chaos.

Ramna police station officer-in-charge Kazi Moinul Islam has confirmed to Prothom Alo about the case filed against 11 people.

He said three of them have been arrested in the case and the rest will be detained soon.
