Indefinite strike at Shabagh to withdraw hiked fuel prices

A group of people has started an indefinite strike at Shabagh in Dhaka, demanding the withdrawal of hiked prices of fuel oil.

They started the sit-in on Saturday night under the banner of 'Agitated Students-People' and announced to continue the protest until their demand is met.

The government hiked the price of fuel oil by a record margin on Friday.

According to the press release of power, energy and mineral resources ministry, diesel price was increased by Tk 34 to Tk 114 per litre while octane price hiked by Tk 46 to Tk 135 and petrol by Tk 44 to Tk 130.

Following that, the long-haul bus fare has been increased by 22 per cent while it is about 16.50 per cent in the city area. Besides, the cost in goods transportation has increased, resulting in the hike of essential commodities’ prices.
