Sunbeams School founding principal Niloufer Manzur dies of COVID-19

Founder and principal of Sunbeams Schools, Dhaka, Niloufer Manzur died of COVID-19 at Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in the capital early Tuesday.

She was 74.

Niloufer Manzur was the wife of Apex Group chairman Manzur Elahi, who also was an adviser to a caretaker government of Bangladesh. Her son Nasim Manzur was the president of Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dhaka.

Apex Footwear’s deputy managing director Abdul Momen Bhuiyan told Prothom Alo that the noted educationist breathed her last around 3:00am.

She was undergoing treatment at Combined Military Hospital, Dhaka for the last few days, he added.

Apex Group founder Manzur Elahi also was tested positive for novel coronavirus infections. He was placed on home isolation as he displayed no symptoms of the virus infection.

Sunbeams School sources said Niloufer Manzur was taken to the hospital as she showed symptoms of pneumonia.

She was tested and found to be infected with novel coronavirus later.

Niloufer Manzur founded the Sunbeams School in 1974.
