Bangladesh reports highest-ever 119 deaths in a day

Bangladesh on Sunday recorded the highest single-day Covid-19 deaths since the pandemic broke out in the country in March last year.

As many as 119 Covid-19 patients died in the last 24 hours until 8:00am on Sunday, raising the total deaths in the country to 14,172, said a press release of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) today.

Earlier, Bangladesh reported second-highest single-day toll on 19 April this year with 112 deaths.

The number of detected novel coronavirus cases rose to 888,406 as 5,268 more cases were reported, after testing 24,400 samples, including rapid antigen tests. In the last 24 hours.

The rate of detection in the last 24 hours was 21.59 per cent.

The health directorate said as many as 804,103 people have recovered from the highly infectious disease so far.

Among the Covid-19 patients who died in the last 24 hours, 32 were in Khulna division, 28 in Dhaka, 22 each in Chattogram and Rajshahi and the remaining patients were from the other four divisions.

Bangladesh detected its first coronavirus patient on 8 March last year and recorded its first death in the disease on 18 March that year.
