Another accused arrested over Khulna physician killing

Police in a drive arrested another accused in connection with the killing of a physician following a scuffle with a patient's relative, from Khulna’s Khalishpur on Saturday.

The arrestee is Kuddus. With this a total of six people have been arrested in connection with the case, said Aslam Bahar Bulbul, officer-in-charge of Sadar police station.

Kuddus was an ‘ezhar’ listed accused of the case, said OC.

On 16 June, Md Abdur Rakib Khan, director of Raisa Clinic and Diagnostic Centre in Khulna and principal of Bagerhat Medical Assistants' Training School, was injured in an attack by the relatives of a patient as a scuffle took place over the death of the patient at a private hospital.

The doctor later died at Shaheed Sheikh Abu Naser Specialised Hospital in Khulna the following day.

Saiful Islam, younger brother of the slain physician, filed the case with Khulna Sadar police station against six identified people and four unidentified people on 18 June.

Police arrested five people including the prime accused Jamir from different areas of Tongi in Gazipur district and Rupsha upazila of Khulna.

The other arrestees are - Abul Ali, Golam Mostafa, Khadiza and Abdur Rahim.

Physicians across the country went on work abstention strike on 18 June demanding immediate arrest of the killers.

Later, they called off their strike on the following day after the arrest of the prime accused.
