Businessman robbed of Tk 5.5m in Dhaka

A businessman has been robbed off more than Tk 5.5 million in broad daylight in Sayedabad area of the city.

The robbers fired blank shots, beat up the businessman and stole away the money in front of the people around 11:00am Sunday.

Victim Saiful Islam said he is the proprietor of banking agency Marfus Enterprise and H-24 Enterprise located at Kajla of Jatrabari.

He said he was going to Motijheel on a bike to deposit Tk 55,69,000 in a bank.

On his way, he added, four robbers by two bikes stopped him in Sayedabad area around 11:00am.

"Two robbers beat me and my assistant with iron rods. They fired blank shots and took away the money," Saiful lamented.

He said, "I went to Jatrabari police station to file a case, but police officials there kept me waiting until 4:00pm before recording the complaint".

Jatrabari officer-in-charge Mazharul Islam told Prothom Alo over phone that police have already collected the CCTV footage from the spot. They have got the clue.

"We have been conducting drives to arrest them," the OC added.

The OC, however, denied the allegation of the businessman.
