Case filed against nine for killing ex-army officer Sinha
Family of former army officer Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan, who was shot dead by police, filed a case with a court on Wednesday.
The court ordered the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) to investigate into the killing.
The case was filed with the judicial magistrate court in Cox’s Bazar on Wednesday afternoon.
Rashed Khan’s sister Sharmin Shariya filed the case. She reached Cox’s Bazar from Dhaka on Wednesday morning.
Nine people including the much-talked about police inspector Liakot Ali and Teknaf police station officer-in-charge Pradip Kumar Das have been made accused in the case.
Shamlapur police check post in-charge inspector Liakot Ali has been made the prime accused while Pradip Kumar Das the second accused.
Retired major Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan was shot dead at Shamlapur police check post in Baharchhara union of Teknaf around 9:00pm on 31 July.
Police claimed that the former army officer Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan locked into an altercation with members of police at the check post. Police then opened fire in self-defence as the army officer brandished his pistol.
The family of the deceased, however, alleged Rashed has been murdered. Batch mates of Rashed also have reacted over the incident. They believe the incident is not a mere shooting in self-defence.
Reactions are being posted on the social media as well. However, the authorities of Army and police forces have advised their respective members not to express reactions on the social media.
An intelligence report, quoting Sinha’s associate Sifat, who was with him at the time, as saying, “Police outpost in-charge inspector Liakot Ali shot three rounds of bullet into Sinha’s chest without any questioning.”
A four-member probe body led by Chattogram additional divisional commissioner Mohammad Mizanur Rahman has been formed to investigate into the incident.
Meanwhile, 16 members including inspector Liakot Ali of Shamlapur police check-post were withdrawn on Sunday.
