A court of Cox’s Bazar has framed charges against 15 accused including suspended officer-in-charge (OC) Pradip Kumar Das and inspector Liakat Ali of Teknaf police station, in a case filed over the murder of retired major Sinha Md Rashed Khan.

Turning down their bail pleas, Cox's Bazar district and sessions judge Mohammad Ismail passed the order on Sunday.

All 15 accused were present in the court while framing charges against them.

Public prosecutor (PP) Faridul Alam told Prothom Alo that the court has set on 27 and 28 July to record the depositions from 10 witnesses among 83. The accused have been asked to appear in court on time.

At least 20 lawyers led by Rana Dasgupta represented the accused during the bail hearing on Sunday and argued that OC Pradip is not involved in this murder.

But the bail plea was rejected as the public prosecutor and the lawyers of the plaintiff opposed the argument. Following the hearing, all 15 accused were sent to Cox’s Bazar district jail.

In the court premises, lawyer Rana Dasgupta told the newsmen that OC Pradip is not involved in the murder of Sinha anyway. He was discharging the duty in line with the government’s zero tolerance policy against the drug.
