An alleged criminal was killed in what the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) called a gunfight with them in Tongi T&T Bazar area in Gazipur early Tuesday, reports UNB.

The deceased was identified as Jahangir Hossain Pinku of Gosairchar village in Chandpur.

Md Kamruzzaman, assistant superintendent of police, RAB-1, said they were informed that a group of drugs and arms traders were staying in the bazar area. A patrol team raided the area around 1:30am.

Sensing the presence of law enforcement, the criminals opened firing that prompted the RAB men to shot back in self-defence.

Later, RAB recovered bullet-injured Pinku and took him to Shaheed Ahsan Ullah General Hospital where physicians declared him dead, added Kamruzzaman.

There are 14 murder, drugs, and arms cases against Pinku, Kamruzzaman said.
