Five including cops injured in explosion at Pallabi police station

Five people including policemen have been injured in an explosion at Pallabi police station in the capital's Mirpur.

The blast took place inside the police station around 7:00am on Wednesday, said Walid Hossain, deputy commissioner of Media and Public Relations, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

Two of the injured are undergoing treatment in Dhaka Medical College Hospital while another one is undergoing treatment at the National Eye Institute. The rest two were discharged from hospital.

Deputy commissioner Walid Hossain said Pallabi police conducted an operation on Tuesday night and detained three people in the raid.

Police recovered two firearms, four bullets and a device looked like digital weigh machine from them. The device kept in the police station exploded in the morning all of a sudden.

Abid Hossain, joint commissioner (crime) at Police Headquarters, said it is not yet clear what kind of explosion it was, and they have been investigating the matter.

Nadia Farzana, additional deputy commissioner of the DMP's media and public relations department, said police explosives experts had gone to the spot.
