Seven students were suspended for two academic years and expelled from their respective dormitories. They are Tahmidul Haq Riaz, Mahmudul Hasan, Sadman Sakib, Mahim Muntasir, ASM Ragib Ahsan, Mir Jamiur Rahman and Rudronil Singha Shovo.

Besides, Aniqur Rahman was suspended for one academic year and expelled from the dormitory.

Twenty-two other students were suspended for one academic year but their punishment will be effective in the future if any allegation of moral turpitude against them is proved true.

Besides, 10 students were fined Tk 10,000 each. But this punishment will not be effective now, and they will get the punishment if any allegation of moral degradation is proved true in the future.

Acting registrar Anisur Rahman said some restrictions have been imposed on political activities to bring discipline on the campus. Removing all political banners, posters and festoons from the campus and taking permission from Students' Welfare Director's office ahead of holding any political meeting or bringing out processions.

Professor Selim, 38, a teacher of the Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) department at the university and also the provost of Lalan Shah Hall, died on 30 November.

According to faculty members of the university, Prof Selim died hours after some Chhatra League activists, led by Sadman Nahyan Sejan, general secretary of KUET unit BCL, allegedly confined the teacher to his office and mentally tortured him to accept their choice as dining manager of Lalan Shah Hall for the month of December.

During this confinement, the teacher was allegedly subjected to abuses, humiliation and threat, his colleagues said. Earlier on 3 December, the university was declared closed till 13 December and then the closure was extended.

KUET authorities decided that the campus will reopen on 8 January and classes will resume on 9 January.
