Mayur-2 launch owner on 3-day remand

A Dhaka court on Thursday put Mosaddek, the owner of Mayur-2 launch, on a three-day remand in connection with the launch capsize in the Buriganga River last month, reports UNB.

The 29 June incident claimed the lives of 34 people.

Senior judicial magistrate Monikha Khan passed the order when sub-inspector Shahidul Alam of river police and also the investigation officer of the case, produced him before the court with seven-day remand prayer.

Lawyers, including Dhaka Bar Association president Iqbal Hossain and general secretary Hossain Ali Khan Hasan, moved bail plea for the Mayur-2 owner.

On early Thursday morning, police arrested Mosaddek from his residence in city's Sobhanbagh.

On 29 June, Dhaka-bound 'MV Morning Bird' launch carrying around 150 passengers from Munshiganj sank after being hit by 'Mayur-2' near Shyambazar in the capital's old town.

Bodies of 34 people were recovered after the launch capsize.

Mohammad Shamsul, sub-inspector of Sadarghat river police station, filed a case at South Keraniganj police station the following day.

On 7 July, police arrested Abdus Salam,a staff of the launch and he was put on a three-day remand by a court on that day.
