Police raid recruiting agencies owned by Omi, seize over 100 passports, nab two

Police on Tuesday raided two recruiting agencies owned by Tuhin Siddiqui alias Omi, one of the accused in the case filed by actress Pori Moni on charges of attempted rape and murder.

More than 100 passports were seized and two people were detained from one of the recruiting agencies during the raid.

Forces from Savar and Dakshinkhan police stations conducted the raid in Dakshinkhan area on Tuesday night.

Deputy commissioner (DC) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (Uttara division) Saidul Islam said raids were conducted at the Singapore Training Centre, owned by Omi, in Dakshinkhan and at another travel agency under the jurisdiction of Uttara West police station.

According to police, more than 100 passports were seized and two people arrested from the Singapore Training Centre. The detainees were identified as Basir and Mashiur.

Police filed a case against five people including Omi Basir and Mashiur with Savar police station under the Passport Act.

DC Saidul Islam they were verifying the seized passports and whether these were kept at the recruiting agencies legally or illegally. Verification is also on whether the travel agency has a valid license, he added.

Officer-in-charge of Dakshinkhan police station Shikder Md Shamim Hossain said the detainees have been produced before the court with police seeking a 10-day remand for each.

Earlier on Tuesday, a Dhaka court placed five people including Nasir U Mahmud and Tuhin Siddiqui Omi on a seven-day remand each in a case filed with Airport police station under the Narcotics Control Act.

On Monday, police arrested these five from Uttara in Dhaka after Pori Moni filed a case with the Savar police station on charges of attempted rape and murder. Police also recovered 1,000 yaba pills and foreign liquor from their possession.

On Sunday, Pori Moni said she, along with her friend Omi and personal makeup artist Jimi, went to a club in Ashulia after 12:00 at night on 10 June. Omi introduced her to some persons there who were drunk.

At one point, one of them tried to force her to drink and tried to rape her, alleged Pori Moni.

On Tuesday, the court of Dhaka’s Senior Judicial Magistrate fixed 8 July for police to submit their probe report in the case filed by actress Pori Moni.
