Smuggled goods, drugs worth over Tk 10 billion seized in 2021: BGB

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized smuggled goods, arms and drugs worth around Tk10.73 billion in various drives across the country last year.

The seized narcotics included 22,440,009 yaba pills, 331,785 bottles of phensedyl, 213,989 bottles of foreign liquor, 131,899 cans of beer, 19,492kg cannabis, 139kg heroin, 7,169 bottles of Cofidil and 237,506 Senegra tablets.

Around 50.433kg gold, 321kg silver, nine statues, 1,295,542 pieces of cosmetics, 55,947 sarees, 9,627 readymade garments, 53,757kg tea leaves, 165,405kg coal, 85 trucks, 60 private cars/microbuses, 80 pickup trucks, 368 CNG/battery run auto-rickshaws and 1,103 motorcycles were also seized.

The arms and ammunition seized included 44 pistols, 67 different types of guns, four revolvers, 35 magazines, 32 mortar shells and 250 rounds of bullets.

Legal actions were taken against 3,599 people for their involvement in smuggling.

Some 2,244 Bangladeshis and 86 Indian citizens were arrested for crossing the border illegally, BGB said.
