Tribunal adjourns Dipon murder trial hearing

An anti-terror tribunal on Wednesday adjourned until 29 April the hearing of the case lodged over murder of publisher Foysal Arefin Dipon in 2016, reports BSS.

Judge Mujibur Rahman of Dhaka Anti-Terror Tribunal passed the order as police refrained from producing the accused from jail amid fear of the outbreak of coronavirus.

The tribunal on 13 October, framed charges against eight members of banned militant outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) in the case.

The tribunal on 19 March accepted the charge sheet filed in the case and issued arrest warrants against fugitive accused ABT leaders sacked army major Syed Ziaul Haque and Akram Hossain.

Investigation officer and detective branch assistant police commissioner Fazlur Rahman on 15 November in 2018, submitted the charge sheet against the eight accused.

The accused are sacked Army major Ziaul Haque, Moinul Hasan Shamim, Md Abdus Sabur, Khairul Islam, Md Abu Siddique Sohel, Md Mozammel Hossain Saimon, Md Sheikh Abdullah and Akram Hossain alias Hasib.

Of the eight, six already have given confessional statements.

Jagriti Prokashoni publisher Dipon was hacked to death at his Aziz Super Market office in the capital city on 31 November 2016. His wife Rajia Rahman filed the case on that day with Shahbagh police station.
