Cabinet secretary calls meeting of secretaries all of a sudden

Cabinet secretary Mahbub Hossain has called all the secretaries all of a sudden. A meeting of secretaries will be held at the secretariat today, Monday 10:00am.

With the national election just a few months away, this meeting is being considered significant.

Several secretaries have told Prothom Alo that on Sunday afternoon they were all of a sudden informed about the meeting. However, they have not been notified about the agendas to be discussed.

The secretaries’ committee on administrative development was scheduled to hold a meeting tomorrow, on Tuesday. Total six agendas were supposed to be discussed in the meeting.

Secretaries from the ministries, which have issues included in the agenda, usually attend these meetings.

Changing the decision on Sunday afternoon, the meeting of the secretaries' committee on administrative development was rescheduled on Monday. The meeting of secretaries will also be held at the same time.

An official of the cabinet division told Prothom Alo that the secretaries’ meeting will be held first and the meeting of the secretaries' committee on administrative development will be held afterwards.

Cabinet division sources say that contemporary issues are supposed to be discussed at the secretaries’ meeting. Especially, there will be discussion on the preparations of filed level administration ahead of the national election slated to be held in December this year or January next year.

Apart from that, different issues including government’s development projects, power, energy, vacant posts are supposed to be discussed too. Currently, there are 85 officials with secretary status.

Total six proposals will be placed for approval at today’s secretaries’ meeting on administrative development.

Most significant of those proposals is the creation of 3,276 posts for 70 educational institutes.
