Dhaka is going to be almost isolated from the rest of the country for nine days due to imposition of restrictions in the surrounding districts.

Meanwhile, the government imposed restrictions in seven districts starting from 6:00am on Tuesday to midnight on 30 June to contain the transmission of coronavirus infections.

As some of these districts surround Dhaka, long distance buses will not leave Dhaka during the period.

These districts adjoining Dhaka are Manikganj, Narayanganj, Munshiganj and Gazipur.

Of these, the vehicles of the districts in the south and south-west pass through Manikganj. The vehicles of Chattogram and Sylhet region pass through the border of Narayanganj.

Vehicles from Mymensingh region and northern region pass through Gazipur. And vehicles from different districts also pass through Munshiganj.

Besides, there will be restrictions in Madaripur, Rajbari and Gopalganj too.

However, people can still reach Dhaka through water, air and railways as there are no specific instructions for these routes. However, there will be no train or launch services in the districts under lockdown.

Railways minister Nurul Islam told Prothom Alo that all the trains between Dhaka and Narayanganj will be closed. However, the long distance trains will be operated as usual. But trains will not be operated in the districts under restrictions.

Air commodore Golam Sadek, chairman of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA), told Prothom Alo that water transports will not be operated in these seven districts under restrictions.

There are no clear instructions whether the long distance buses can be operated or not as per the circular issued by the cabinet division. However, an official said all kinds of transport will remain closed.

To clarify the issue, Prothom Alo contacted Nur Mohammad, chairman of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA).

He said no transport will pass through these seven districts under restrictions. Which eventually means Dhaka will be isolated.
