The price of gold has shot up to a record high of Tk 72,783 per bhari (11.664 grams) in the local market.

This is the highest price of the precious yellow metal ever recorded in Bangladesh, according to jewellers.

The Bangladesh Jewellers Association on Thursday decided to raise the gold price by around Tk 3,000 per bhari to be effective from tomorrow, Friday, as a price adjustment with the international market.

After the latest hike, the price of one bhari of 22-carat gold will cost Tk 72,783, while 21-carat Tk 69,634, 18-carat Tk 60,886 and traditional gold Tk 50,560.

Earlier on 23 June, the price of gold was raised by Tk 5,825.

The gold price in the international market is now $1,889 per ounce (31.10 gram).
