Home of Humanity brings hope to Naogaon

A humanitarian initiative has been taken up in Enayetpur union of Naogaon’s Mohadebpur to help people of the working class people who have become unemployed during the countrywide shutdown issued to contain the spread of coronavirus.

The initiative called Home of Humanity (Manobotar Ghor) showcases packed food supplies on the shelves of a house from where people are collecting whatever they need.

The caretaker of the project, Anisur Rahman, told Prothom Alo that the people in need come here to collect their daily essentials which are donated by the affluent.

The initiative, taken by Mohadebpur upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) Mizanur Rahman, began on 3 April and many people donated food supplies and other essentials and many came to collected these, he added.

A local, who came here on Sunday to donate some food packets, said, “There are many people who are embarrassed to stand in a queue for help. This initiative would be a great relief for those helpless people.”

Enayetpur union parishad chairman, Mehedi Hassan, said, “We started the project under the leadership of UNO Mizanur Rahman and it has already received positive feedback from every sector.”

“We, so far, donated around 1,500 bags of food supplies,” he added.

UNO Mizanur said, “It is impossible for the government to tackle the present situation single-handedly. We took the initiative so that the rich people could come forward and help the helpless.”

The UNO added that he has plans to build such Home of Humanity in nine other unions of Mohadebpur.
